Here we come to the end of another year. Hope your 2010 was a good one.

I have to admit, I’m happy to see 2010 go. It has been a trying and difficult year for me personally. The silver lining in it has been the opportunity for a great deal of personal growth and reflection, in spite of the difficulties, so it hasn’t been a complete waste. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and others.

I normally have a pretty clear vision of things but things were cloudy this past year. 2011 is looking much clearer and really quite positive.

Looking out towards 2012, there’s no hope, after all. The world is apparently supposed to end on December 21, 2012, or so the ancient Mayans say. ; ) I wonder if they predicted their own demise?

I’ve always said that the only reason their calendar ends on that date is because they ran out of space on the stone tablet they first used to make the calendar. After that, they just copied the first one. So why worry? : ) I’ve never really put much stock in ancient prophecies anyway.

What to expect in 2011?

I’ve always had a lot of ideas. Lots. Too many really. I’ve always had to be judicious in terms of what I pursue because I can’t possibly pursue them all. I don’t mind sharing the ones I know I’ll never use though. (Just ask me for some.)

A few ideas have bubbled to the top recently and I’m hoping to pursue one or two this year (in addition to what I’m already doing). I’m actually pretty excited about one, as it’s something I don’t see anyone doing well out there. Keep an eye out for announcements.

Travel?

I’ve been hoping to do some travelling in the last couple years, but just have not been able to go. That’s something I am hoping to change this year. Europe has been one of my planned destinations, but I’m also hoping to do some travelling back to B.C., but I am hoping to do so by motorcycle.

I’d like to buy a Kawasaki KLX-650 and do some off-road exploring, maybe in Alberta’s foothills, but mainly in B.C. I grew up in central B.C. and I know there are a lot of roads I used to explore with my family when I was a kid, so I’d like to get back to them again.

Of course I plan to share those adventures too, because I want to get into some more remote locations with my camera and the dual-sport motorcycle should help with that.

Writing

I have been doing some experimenting with different plugins and apps. You may have noticed a series of recent blog posts involving my Twitter stream. I kind of like being able to accumulate them all in one place, for what they’re worth.

Writing is something I’d like to do much more of this year. (I probably say that every year.) There has been so much happening in the world lately that I could turn blogging into a full-time career (if it could really pay). I will be looking for some opportunities to do some guest blogging and freelance reporting and writing though. It’s something I’ve really missed.

I hope your 2011 is a great one and remember, any day you’re on this side of the dirt, it’s a good day.
